Job Description

 Handary S.A. is seeking an experienced Nisin Production Scientist / Bioprocess Engineer to support the development, commissioning and operation of our nisin production line in fleurus, Belgium.

Tasks & Responsabilities:

 

  • Develop and optimise nisin fermentation and downstream purification processes.
  • Operate bioreactors, centrifugation, filtration, ÄKTA ready, ÄKTA flux and chromatography systems.
  • Establish process parameters for fermentation, recovery, concentration, purification and formulation.
  • Improve yield, purity, biological activity and batch-to-batch consistency.
  • Develop analytical methods for nisin identification, potency, purity and stability.
  • Prepare SOPs, batch records, validation protocols and technical reports.
  • Train production and laboratory personnel.
  • Support scale-up from laboratory trials to pilot and industrial production.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable food-safety, quality and GMP requirements.

 

Requirements

  • Ph.D., MSc or equivalent experience in biotechnology, biochemical engineering, fermentation science, microbiology or a related field.
  • Practical experience in microbial fermentation and protein or peptide purification.
  • Experience with Lactococcus lactis, bacteriocins or nisin production is strongly preferred.
  • Familiarity with tangential-flow filtration, chromatography and ÄKTA equipment.
  • Strong understanding of process development, scale-up, contamination control and analytical validation.
  • Able to work independently and solve practical production problems.
  • Professional English is required; French is an advantage.

Engagement

The position may be arranged on a full-time, part-time or consultancy basis, depending on the candidate’s availability and experience.
